Break for…a God-Sized Question

Our Father accumulated infinite wealth. He did this through untold ages of creativity, ingenuity, integrity, honorable leadership and management. He ruled over everything that exists because everything came from Him. At the end of His ministry, however, Jesus told us, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18, NIV).

But…Why would God give all His authority away?

In the rebellion, Satan the Accuser influenced us to turn against God. He asked us, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1 NIV). Satan convinced us that God was holding out on us.

But wait, there’s more! Satan further argued that he deserves to be the prince of this world because God’s sinful stewards now side with him. God no longer has legitimate rights over the earth, says our enemy.

So, our Father does the unthinkable. He gives His authority in both earth and heaven away to Jesus.

Satan no longer has a case that God cannot exercise authority over all creation. Because He doesn’t! The Father has given it all to the Son. An act of generous love that evil would have never even contemplated. Our family honor is preserved completely from even the flimsiest accusations of wrongdoing.

Why would our Father give away His authority? The same reason our Jesus would give away His life. For our family.

Soon there will be a great wedding feast in which the Son gives all back into the hands of our Father (1 Corinthians 15:24). Our family honor will be preserved in every possible way.

And, to our Father, just like our Jesus, His family means more than everything.
