Announcing the Public Launch of Renew Movement Church Planting

The Exponential Church Planting Conference in Orlando, FL, starts today. It is the largest gathering of church planting leaders on the planet with a registered attendance of 5,500 church leaders.

I will be leading a pre-conference for RENEW.org and a main track focused on renewing the teachings of Jesus to fuel disciple making. At the same time, Todd Wilson, Brett Andrews, and Donnie Williams will be leading a track announcing the public launch of Renew Movement Church Planting.

Q. What is Renew Movement Church Planting?

It is an effort to help churches collaborate together to plant churches. What this means is that churches will pool their resources with the guidance of Renew Movement and plant churches that will uphold Renew theology and a disciple making focus.

Q. What makes Renew Movement unique?

Each church planted will be planted with a commitment to Renew’s faith statement (click here to read) and disciple making philosophy (click here to read). Those leading Renew Movement have learned by experience that this kind of clarity is essential for long-term health, sustained theology, and a commitment to philosophical fidelity.

Q. Will Renew Movement collaborate with other church planting organizations?

Yes, as long as those collaborating agree to uphold or support Renew’s faith statement and disciple making philosophy. We are historically connected with the independent Christian Churches of the Restoration Movement. Our founders collectively have over 100 years’ experience in church planting and have co-founded other ministries like Exponential, Discipleship.org, Passion for Planting, Relational Discipleship Network, Onward Church Planting, and Renew.org.

Q. Who is leading Renew Movement?

Todd Wilson was the co-founder of Exponential Church Planting Network and the CEO until the spring of 2022. Todd left Exponential to pursue other ventures including Renew Movement. In January of 2023, Todd committed to lead Renew Movement. He is joined by Renew co-founder and Passion for Planting co-founder Brett Andrews. Passion for Planting will serve as a hub for Renew Movement.

Q. Who are the first participants to plant a church with Renew Movement?

The initial collaborators in this effort—and those planting the first five churches—are Brett Andrews (New Life Christian Church in Washington, DC, and Passion for Planting), Donnie Williams (LifePoint Christian Church in Raleigh, NC), Dave Clayton (Ethos Church and Onward Church Planting, Nashville), Brandon Guindon (Real Life Texas and the Relational Discipleship Network), and my home church (Harpeth Christian Church in Nashville/Franklin, TN).

Q. How can people join up with Renew Movement if they are at the Exponential Church Planting Conference this week?

Come to Renew Movement’s booth and Renew.org’s booth (we are both at Exponential this week). You can join the luncheon as we launch Jim Putman’s book RelationShift (click here for more).

Most importantly, if you are at Exponential this week and want to learn more about Renew Movement, sign up for the TopGolf experience Wednesday night—it is free—click here to join.

One of my favorite movies is Nacho Libre, starring Jack Black as a Mexican monk who becomes a champion wrestler. Although Nacho is a devout Catholic, his wrestling partner “Esqueleto” is a skeptic. Before a wrestling match against an intimidating duo, Nacho tells Esqueleto, “Pray to the Lord for strength,” to which Esqueleto responds, “I […]
