How Do You Follow Jesus in a World That Sees Faith and Sexuality So Differently? We live in a time when the conversation around LGBTQ+ issues is more complex—and more […]
Guy Hammond started Strength in Weakness ministry which has helped thousands in 58 countries. He has taught over 100,000 people in churches, universities and faith based groups globally, has written 6 books and had a documentary movie made about his life and ministry called Finding Guy. Before becoming a Christian, Guy lived an active gay life until he was 24 years old. After becoming a Christian, he left that life behind forever. Guy is a news junkie, loves anything political, loves to read, and is an avid hockey and baseball fan.
My name is Guy Hammond.
Before I became a Christian in 1987, I lived a promiscuous homosexual lifestyle for fourteen years, including two years in the gay community in Toronto, Canada. During that time, I had a boyfriend for several years. After my conversion to Jesus, I left that life behind for good. Although my same-gender attractions have never diminished, I am committed to finding my identity in Jesus rather than in my sexual orientation.
Over the decades, God has tremendously blessed my life. I eventually entered full-time ministry, pastoring churches across Canada. I was married to my first wife, Cathy, for twenty-eight years, during which time God blessed us with four exceptional children. After Cathy passed away from brain cancer, I remarried a wonderful Christian woman named Laura. Reflecting on my reckless and immoral past, I realize how fortunate I am to have received these incredible gifts from God, these gifts of my family.
As the years went by in my Christian journey, I became increasingly concerned that the church did not have a practical strategy for helping Christians share the gospel with their gay family members and friends. In response to this need, I founded Strength in Weakness Ministries (www.strengthinweakness.org). Since its establishment in 2006, this organization has supported thousands of Christian men and women living with unwanted same-gender attractions, as well as parents of gay children, in over 90 countries worldwide. We also conduct workshops for churches and Christian schools to educate the church on how disciples of Jesus can compassionately and respectfully share the good news of Christ with the LGBTQ+ community while upholding the sexual ethics of Scripture.
The insights and questions presented in this discussion guide are based on a more comprehensive book I authored called Following Jesus in an LGBTQ+ World. This discussion guide also serves as a companion and intermingles with a feature-length documentary film, also of the same name. This discussion guide is organized into six sections, each corresponding to one of the six, ten-minute segments of the documentary. After watching each, please read the corresponding section in this discussion guide. At the end of each section, you will find questions designed to promote discussion within a group. For those seeking more depth and insight, I encourage you to purchase the accompanying book from Renew.org found HERE. The documentary film by the same name can be found HERE.

The Apocrypha. Even the word is mysterious, perhaps conjuring up some Amazon.com-only work on the “lost books of the Bible.” For evangelicals, the Apocrypha can be intimidating, as its presence […]
