Letting Jesus Define Our Terms for Powerful Discipleship and Kingdom Living

  • Definitions matter because even small tweaks can drain words like disciple and kingdom of their biblical power.
  • Jesus defines a disciple as someone who follows him, is changed by him, and commits to his mission under King Jesus.
  • Rejecting Jesus’ definitions leads to confusion, but receiving him as truth and light forms a clear, mission-shaped life in God’s kingdom.

Words and their meanings matter. When it comes to words like “disciple,” “discipleship,” and “kingdom,” we need to let Jesus define the terms. When we redefine them, these words lose their power.
