Bob Russell During his senior year of high school Bob realized a desire in his heart to enter the ministry. Soon thereafter, he enrolled in Cincinnati Bible Seminary where he graduated in 1965. At just twenty-two years of age, Bob became the pastor of Southeast Christian Church. That small congregation of 120 members became one of the largest churches in America, with 18,000 people attending the three worship services every weekend in 2006 when Bob retired. Now through Bob Russell Ministries, Bob continues to preach at churches and conferences throughout the United States, provide guidance for church leadership, mentor other ministers and author Bible study videos for use in small groups. An accomplished author, Bob has written over one-dozen books. Bob and his wife Judy of 52 have two married sons and seven grandchildren with whom they enjoy spending their time. Bob also enjoys playing golf and is an avid University of Louisville football and basketball fan.
6 Reasons Why You Need to Attend Church in Person Since the Covid lockdown, many churchgoers no longer attend worship services regularly, alleging it is easier and less time-consuming to stay home and watch an online service. When confronted, some suggest they have grown beyond the need for in-person worship at a local congregation, claiming they get as much fulfillment when viewing a service online.... Bob Russell
When God Disciplines You When something goes drastically wrong in our lives, we often wonder why God is punishing us. But some painful experiences are just an inevitable part of living in a fallen world. God does not cause all our hurts any more than a loving parent causes a child learning to ride a bike to take a... Bob Russell
If Stonehenge Is Proof of Ancient Wisdom, What Does the Universe Prove? While recovering from the Coronavirus, I watched a documentary about Stonehenge, the architectural mystery and astronomical wonder located eight miles north of Salisbury, England. It’s estimated that around 1600 B.C., ancients hauled massive rock pillars to that location from Southwest Wales and positioned them in two concentric circles around the center of the site. There... America Is in a Spiritual War. Are You All-In or AWOL? Recently, Americans commemorated the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3000 in one day. When the World Trade towers were demolished, most Americans were shocked by what they interpreted as unprovoked attacks. They had no idea there were Muslim extremists who hated America so much they were plotting behind the... Bob Russell

When Holiness Is Attractive Jesus warned in the last days there would be such an increase of wickedness that the world would resemble the total decadence of the days of Noah and the days of Lot. Christ-followers are instructed not to get sucked into the declining values but to live distinctively holy lives. “Since everything is going to be... Bob Russell
Can Evangelicals Disagree on Impeachment without Being Divisive? *Editor’s Note: We worked with Bob Russell, a Renew.org partner, on the following newsletter/blog regarding the impeachment of Donald Trump. Last week Mark Galli, retiring editor of Christianity Today, published an editorial calling for President Donald Trump’s removal from office. Galli’s article endorsing impeachment initiated a firestorm of controversy among Christians. Galli claimed the over 80% of evangelicals... Bob Russell
Why Do So Many Ministers Drop Out of Ministry? How We Can Help In an earlier article, I listed six reasons why so many pastors are dropping out. Financial stress, a gnawing sense of failure, dysfunctional church leadership, inexplicable loneliness, time pressures, and constant criticism all contribute to a very troubling attrition rate. Whatever the reason, 70% of ministers in the Christian Church drop out within the first... Bob Russell
Why Do So Many Ministers Drop out of Ministry: 6 Reasons I am on the advisory board of The Center for Church Leadership, which is a branch of Cincinnati Christian University. Two years ago CCL received a million-dollar grant from the Lilly Foundation to conduct a study to determine the causes of increased attrition in ministry. They surveyed Restoration Movement churches primarily and received 500 responses.... Bob Russell
What Happens When We Die Recently, I prayed with two men who were dying. Both were under Hosparus Care and were barely conscious. I reminded them of 2 Corinthians 4:16-5:8 where believers are encouraged not to lose heart when facing death. The Apostle Paul wrote that though outwardly we waste away, inwardly we can be rejuvenated daily. Paul advised, “So... Bob Russell
Pornography: Everyone’s Battle The following statistics shocked me. A full-page ad in a recent issue of World Magazine reported on the pervasiveness of pornography in our culture. The latest studies by the Barna Group and Covenant Eyes are alarming. Over 40 million Americans are regular visitors to porn sites. The average visit lasts 6 minutes and 29 seconds.... Bob Russell
